Please note that the Center will be closed on Monday, November 27th, 2017 for a staff meeting.

The Ottawa Legal Information Centre (the Centre) provides legal information and referral services to all residents of Ontario.

Legal Information

The Centre offers a 30-minute meeting with a lawyer to anyone faced with a legal issue. These services are offered in English and in French, in person or by telephone, on a confidential basis.

There are no eligibility criteria and services are offered in all areas of the law, such as family law, immigration law, tenant rights, employment insurance, etc.

Referral Service

In collaboration with numerous legal, government and community organizations, the Centre steers people toward the appropriate local resources.

L’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (AJEFO or Association of French Speaking Jurists of Ontario) is a non-profit organization that has been working over 30 years to ensure access to justice in French in Ontario. AJEFO promotes the use of both official languages within Ontario’s legal system by creating awareness, informing and educating legal sector professionals and the general public on their legal rights and obligations as well as their right to legal services in the official language of their choice.

The Centre is financed by the Department of Justice Canada by the means of the Roadmap for Canada's Official Languages 2013‑2018: Education, Immigration, Communities.

We would also like to thank the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario for their support.
